This morning I crushed my two-minute workout doing push-ups and holding a plank when not doing not doing push-ups for the first minute. They were done in batches of five until the final three when the timer went and I didn't have another two. I know I did over 40, but I'm not sure precisely beyond that as the total count wasn't my priority for now.
With my scripture study I'm realizing I'm all over the place. My morning listening is at a different place than my nightly reading which is at a different place than what I read with my family. This currently has me listening and reading in different parts of the book of Alma as well as the book of Ether. I was struck with some potential symbolism in the book of Ether that I'd like to look at more closely and perhaps do a real deep dive on in the future. I was seeing the story of the Brother of Jared having stones lit by the finger of the Lord and the journey across the great deep as quite rich with symbols to learn from.
- The journey to the promised land seems pretty straight forward as representative of a journey to Eternal Life.
- The crossing the water while being buried in the waters and being brought forth again by the power of the Savior to deliver is reminiscent of conquering death, being buried and brought forth again whole.
- The fact that the journey involved a complete family symbolic of Eternal Life being a family endeavor and not an individual quest. The work the brother of Jared did to purify rock until it was clear like glass before the Lord lit the stones could easily represent the work we need to do in our lives to purify ourselves to be filled with His light.
- The barges being tight like unto a dish and filled with the light of the Lord could represent how we need to remain steadfast and after having received of His light seal out the world's influence, and yet acknowledge that in mortality we need to live in the world, but not of the world, so to make holes for air that can be stopped and unstopped. If air to breathe (inspiration) comes in we let the air exchange and enjoy the inspiration to carry us forward in life, but if the waters come in (the influence of the world) we shut it out again.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on other symbolism you have seen and been taught by the spirit.
