Inspired by a better cause

This morning as I listened to scriptures while getting dishes put away, I was listening to the account of Captain Moroni encountering Zarahemna and his men. In this account, Moroni was outnumbered but better prepared with armor for his men. The Lamanites were afraid of the Nephites on account of their armor and fled to go cause trouble in other parts of the land. Moroni felt that as his only cause was the defense of his people and their freedoms that there was nothing wrong with using spies and strategy to protect themselves and determined the course the Lamanites were taking and set up an ambush for them.

During the ensuing battle the Nephites, though fewer in number had the upper hand. Even so, the Lamanites were inspired to hatred and anger by their leaders and had never been known to fight with such ferocity. In this time, the difference maker was that the men of Moroni were inspired by a better cause to hold their ground. Still, the men of Moroni began to shrink from the fierceness of the Lamanites and were prepared to flee from them and Moroni had to remind them of the causes they were fighting for (family, freedom, religious liberty) to re-inspire them to win the day.

As we encounter battles every day about who we are and will be and social pressures mount with greater and greater vitriol against those who aren't on board with the agenda of Babylon, we must not only be inspired by a better cause, but constantly reminded of what is at stake in the battle should we choose to abandon the conflict. We need to hold true to our values to give our young and those whose faith is weaker a chance to grow without being swept off undefended by those with strength to stand. To keep that strength to stand we need to stay connected to our "Chief Captain" in the war through prayer and studying His words in scriptures and listening to those he has sent to share His word to inspire us on. This can be church leaders and ministering brothers and sisters and all those who bring the spirit of the Lord to truly inspire us on. We can also be these messengers sent to inspire our fellow combatants to stay the course.

Be Strong!
